Dorr Capital is a full service independent commercial mortgage brokerage, advisory, and loan servicing company. We offer real estate developers, owners and investors in the Canadian Commercial Real Estate Industry effective, efficient and creative solutions for their commercial mortgage needs. Our business has developed through industry experience, integrity in dealings and our relationships in the lending community.


Dorr Capital is able to leverage its close relationships to source capital requirements for the purchase, development, finance, refinance or equity of real estate asset classes, including, CMHC insured or conventional multi-family residential, condominium and single family housing construction, retail,  industrial, owner operator, office, retirement, hospitality, affordable housing, infrastructure and land.

Meet The Dorr Capital Team

Brian Dorr - President

Brian began his professional career in real estate finance in 1993. He is the firms' Principal Broker. Brian spent his first 11 years at Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) where, along with earning progressively senior positions, he was responsible for underwriting, default management, mortgage portfolio administration and arranging financing for Assisted Housing Projects in difficulty.


Since 2004, Brian has advised and completed complex financing for Developers and Real Estate Investors. He has held senior positions at Canada ICI, MCAP (Caisse Depôt de placement de Québec), Quest Capital and Cameron Stephens Mortgage Capital.  One of his key success factors remains the many strong relationships he has with senior managers in over forty lending institutions and investors active in the Canadian real estate marketplace.


Brian holds an MBA from Niagara University in Lewiston, New York, is a Certified Management Accountant (CMA) and maintains a Certified Property Management Designation (CPM).

Robert Shiller - Managing Partner and Mortgage Broker

Robert began his real estate career in the late 1980's and has worked in New York, Montreal, Paris and Toronto. Robert has been involved in real estate loans, property acquisitions and loan restructurings totaling over $3 billion. He has held senior positions with large US and Canadian financial institutions and investment banks. His responsibilities have included loan origination, leading an asset management group with a portfolio in excess of $1 billion, large portfolio acquisitions and a start-up of a CMBS loan operation. Robert holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from McGill University and is licensed by FSCO as a Mortgage Broker..

Riccardo (Ric) Plati – Managing Partner and Agent

Riccardo has substantial experience in real estate finance, and for the last eight years has worked for a mortgage investment corporation, pension fund, private developer, and most recently Infrastructure Ontario in their loan program. To date, Riccardo has structured and underwritten over $1.3 billion in debt opportunities in both construction and income generating properties across all major real estate asset classes. Aside from real estate, Riccardo has an astute understanding of infrastructure projects such as power generation and distribution. In addition to structuring and underwriting real estate and infrastructure lending projects, Riccardo was part of the evaluation team for recommendation of the Pan/Parapan AM Games Athletes Village Affordable Housing Facilities project and various government divestiture projects. Riccardo holds a BA from York University.



Judy Wong, Vice President Underwriting & Loan Servicing and Agent

Judy has over 20 years of progressive commercial real estate experience and has been an integral member of Dorr Capital since its inception in 2011. She oversees and manages the underwriting and loan servicing of the mortgage portfolio.


Prior to joining Dorr Capital, Judy was a key member in her positions held at MCAP, Equivest Capital Corporation and Cameron Stephens Mortgage Capital. Her industry experience includes structuring, underwriting and closing multi-million dollar accounts in a broad array of assets and loan types including low-rise and high-rise developments, industrial and retail properties, affordable housing multi-residential transactions and CMHC insured loan applications.


Judy holds an Honours Bachelor of Mathematics specializing in Business Administration and Information Systems from the University of Waterloo. Judy is a licensed Mortgage Agent through the Financial Services Commission of Ontario.

Denise King, Manager, Administration

Denise joined Dorr Capital in 2013 as Executive Assistant to Brian Dorr, she was born and educated in England and trained as a Local Government Officer.


As a seasoned Executive Assistant/Office Manager she has honed her skills to provide executive administrative support to senior management in a diverse range of organizations from Not-For-Profit, Education, Property Development, Architectural Design and Commercial Real Estate Financing.


Her current role has expanded with the growth of Dorr Capital and she is now the Manager of Administration.

James Gajda - Director of Underwriting & CFO

James started his career with a national accounting firm gaining experience through a variety of financial accounting, auditing and consulting engagements. James then moved into the insolvency practice area, where he expanded his experience into receiverships, bankruptcies and insurance investigations.


James joined Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation in Default Management and Real Estate where he was involved in restructuring insured mortgage loans and the sale of multi-residential properties. He then moved to Underwriting and became a Principal Underwriter, responsible for multi-residential properties, retirement homes and condominium construction loans throughout Ontario.


James joined Dorr Capital in 2017 as Director of Underwriting and has expanded his role as Chief Financial Officer.


James holds Chartered Accountant and Professional Accountant designations from CPA Canada.

Kristina Berezhnaya - Mortgage Analyst and Mortgage Agent

Kristina has valuable experience in residential and commercial mortgage servicing and mortgage administration which are her primary responsibilities at Dorr Capital Corporation. Kristina’s role also consists of maintaining investor relations and liaising with investors for transactions, preparing mortgage statements and invoices, administrating and funding multi-million loans through The Mortgage Office, as well as corresponding with the Financial Services Commission of Ontario (FSCO). She also assists in underwriting and preparing loan proposals for commercial and residential mortgages.


Kristina holds a High Honours diploma of International Business from Seneca College and is also licensed by FSCO as a Mortgage Agent.

Ting Liu - Senior Financial Analyst

Ting Liu has been working in the real estate industry for over 10 years. She has extensive experience in market research and financial analysis. Before joining Dorr Capital, she has worked for various types of organizations, including commercial real estate brokerage, retail company, boutique private equity firm, and home builder in both China and Canada. She has working knowledge with both commercial and residential real estate market.


She received the master’s degree in Entrepreneurship and Technology from University of Waterloo and a bachelor’s degree in Finance from Nankai University in China.
